JAKARTA, June 20 (Reuters): Indonesia reported 13,737 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, the highest in a single day since Jan 30, bringing the total number of cases in the country to nearly two million, data from the Covid-19 task force showed.

On Sunday, the task force also reported 371 new deaths, the highest number of daily fatalities since early April, taking the total to 54,662.

An additional 6,385 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries from the pandemic in the South-East Asian country to 1,792,528.

The coronavirus has spread to all the country's 34 provinces.

Specifically, in the past 24 hours, Jakarta recorded 5,582 newly-confirmed cases, Central Java 2,195, West Java 2,009, East Java 739 and Yogyakarta 665.

No new cases were detected in North Sulawesi province.

Indonesia will now receive 50 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine jointly made by Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE), with the first batch expected in August, a senior health ministry official said on Saturday.

"Pfizer vaccines will start arriving from August, with shipments of between 7.5 million to 12 million doses per month,” said Siti Nadia Tarmizi, adding that the supply is the result of a direct government purchase.

Indonesia aims to vaccinate 181.5 million people by next year. As of Saturday, 12.2 million people have received two doses of other vaccines. - Reuters
