BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 11 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): It is the duty of every citizen to abide by the laws and regulations to preserve and maintain peace and security in the country, Brunei Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar Haji Apong said.

Expressing gratitude as the country enjoys peace and prosperity under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the minister said this is a valuable Nikmat Kurnia.

“It is the duty and responsibility of all to extend undivided loyalty to the monarch as citizens and residents of the country,” he said at the citizenship certificate presentation yesterday.

“As citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, we must create a society that is harmonious and united and have a responsible attitude that is not easily influenced by elements either from outside or within the country.”

The minister also hoped the recipients will appreciate the citizenship granted with the consent of His Majesty not only through the pledge but also in carrying out daily deeds and practices.

“This serves to contribute a devotional service to jointly build, preserve and defend the sovereignty and safety of the country and sacrifice whether in the form of material, spiritual, mind, body and soul for the sake of the country,” the minister added.

Two hundred and sixty-six applicants who were given the consent for citizenship received citizenship certificates under Section 6(1). They comprised children of Bruneian mothers and adopted children of Bruneian parents under Section 5(6), Chapter 15 of the Brunei National Registration Act. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
