Sam Xang cement products building brighter future for Lao society

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN): Luang Prabang Jiangge Cement Sole Co, Ltd. is now providing high quality cement, mainly in the northern provinces, with an output of 2,000 tonnes per day while providing jobs for local people.

Wen Yaosheng is the General Manager of Luang Prabang Jiangge Cement Sole Co., Ltd, which is located in Luang Prabang province.

The Luang Prabang Jiangge cement plant and another cement plant located in Oudomxay province are owned by Jiangge, a subsidiary of China’s Xiamen Yongfugui Group.

These two plants are the key projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, producing and supplying cement products under the “Sam Xang” brand.

Speaking to the Vientiane Times, Wen referred that the company is focusing on providing high quality cement for its customers.

Guizhou Jiangge Cement Co, Ltd took over the cement plant in Phonmany village, Nambak district in July, 2017.

“We provide products to eight northern provinces and for use in the construction of the Laos-China expressway. We will bring our technological superiority in constructing airport runways and reservoir dams here and continue to provide high quality cement for the Vangvieng-Boten expressway, the expressway between Luang Namtha and Bokeo, hydropower projects, airports, bridges, tunnels and some other large projects, ” Wen said.

“Our cement products are well known by people in the northern provinces. People in northern Laos do not have to pay higher prices for foreign cement, which will greatly reduce construction costs” he added. “Customers can call our hotline 020-92836666 to purchase our products.”

The factory creates job opportunities and now employs 230 workers including 190 local residents.

The factory provides good welfare to its employees and organises sports activities on special occasions, offering cash, prizes and goods to workers to improve their quality of life.” Wen said.

Staff have opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge through training courses by which they are able to raise their professional standards and help the factory grow.

The factory has dust extractor machines to help to keep the working environment clean.

By using modern equipment and hiring Chinese experts, the plant produces products with high quality that are even better than the GB175-2007 standard.

Jiangge, a subsidiary corporation of Yongfugui Group, has invested in two cement plants – the Luang Prabang plant in Phonmany village, Nambak district, and the Oudomxay plant in Nathong village, Namor district.

The company invested US$210 million in the two plants.

Under the Belt and Road Initiative raised by Chinese President Xi Jinping, an outline of the cooperation plan to promote the Initiative was signed by the Lao and Chinese governments in May 2017 for building a bigger stage for the economic development between the two parties. - Vientiane Times/Asia News Network
