Vietnam arrests three drug traffickers, seizes 18kg synthetic drugs


HANOI (Xinhua): Police of northern Vietnam's Lai Chau province have arrested three local drug traffickers, seizing 18kg of synthetic drugs, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday (Feb 19).

The authorities caught red-handed a 39-year-old man transporting the drugs in Lai Chau's Tam Duong district on Thursday.

Expanding investigation, they arrested two other drug smugglers involved in the ring who were escaping into the forest, said the report.

According to Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
