BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua): The Chinese mainland on Thursday night (Jan 14) reported 144 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases, of whom 135 were locally transmitted and the rest arrived from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

It was China's highest number of daily Covid-19 cases in more than 10 months, official data showed on Friday, due to a severe outbreak in the northeast that has put more than 28 million people under lockdown. It was the highest daily increase since 202 cases reported on March 1.
