Dozens 'held for breaking National Security Law' in Hong Kong

HONG KONG (China Daily/ANN): About 50 people involved in an independently organised ballot by the opposition camp ahead of the now-shelved legislative election last year have been arrested on suspicion of violating the National Security Law on Wednesday (Jan 6)morning, according to local media reports and social media posts.

Some of those reportedly arrested are suspected of subversion, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment under the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
