UNHCR ‘shocked’ at lese majeste charges against child; Thai activists stage crop top protest against law

BANGKOK, Dec 20 (The Nation Thailand/ANN): (ANN): The United Nations High Commission for Human Rights (OHCHR) has expressed dismay at the move by Thai authorities to charge at least 35 protesters, including a child, with lèse majesté under Article 112 of the penal code.

“We are particularly alarmed that [a]16-year-oldprotester was yesterday [Dec 17] presented by police to the Juvenile Court with a request for a detention order, ” said OHCHR spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani.
