Japan reports surging new cases of Covid-19 - 85,451 in total

TOKYO, Oct 4 (Xinhua): The confirmed Covid-19 (coronavirus) cases in Japan increased by 577 to 85,451 as of Saturday late night (Oct 3), according to the latest figures from the health ministry and local authorities.

The figure excludes the 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo earlier in the year.
