BEIJING, Aug 30 (dpa): China has updated export rules to give itself the final say in a forced sale of the video-sharing platform TikTok, according to Chinese state media reports.

According to "adjustments" to the Catalogue of Technologies Prohibited or Restricted from Export by China issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Friday, export restrictions have been extended to "personalized information service technology based on data analysis" and "AI interface technology."

In an interview with the state-run Xinhua news agency published late Saturday, Professor Cui Fan of China's University of International Business and Economics said these new categories could include technologies held by TikTok's Beijing-based parent company ByteDance.

Despite President Donald Trump’s executive order forcing ByteDance to sell its US TikTok business to a US firm within 90 days, the new export rules could give Beijing the final say in whether any sale goes through.

The last time a revision was made to the regulation was in 2008. - dpa
