SHANGHAI, Aug 1 (Reuters) : China reported 45 cases of the new Covid-19 (coronavirus) in the mainland for July 31, down sharply from 127 cases a day earlier, the health commission said on Saturday. Of the new infections, 31 were in the far western region of Xinjiang, according to a statement by the National Health Commission. Eight were in the northeastern province of Liaoning, and the remaining six were imported cases. The region also saw eight new asymptomatic cases in Urumqi on Friday. As of Friday, Xinjiang had 547 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 109 asymptomatic cases, and 14,540 people were still under medical observation China reported 23 new asymptomatic cases, up from 11 a day earlier. As of the end of Friday, mainland China had 84,337 confirmed coronavirus cases, the health authority said. The Covid-19 death toll remained at 4,634. Xinhua also reported that The National Health Commission announced on Saturday (Aug 1) that 15 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland Friday. There were 714 patients still being treated, including 39 in severe condition, the commission said in its daily report. Altogether 78,989 patients had been cured and discharged from hospitals by Friday, the report said.
