BEIJING (China Daily/ANN): The Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) urged the EU to stop meddling in China’s internal affairs after it set out a package of measures in response to the national security legislation for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

In a statement posted online on July 29, the mission said China was firmly against the EU’s wrong moves and has made representations with the EU side.

“We urge the EU to truly respect China’s position on safeguarding national security in Hong Kong and to stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs in any way, ” the statement reads.

“The EU has no right to make irresponsible remarks, ” it added.

According to the statement, China has repeatedly elaborated on its position concerning the national security legislation for the HKSAR.

“Chinese people, notably the Hong Kong people, are in the best position to tell if the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ has been well implemented or not, ” the statement reads.

“The vast majority of Hong Kong residents are of the view that the national security law will contribute to the protection of their rights and to the maintenance of long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong. We have strong confidence in this regard, ” it added. - China Daily/Asia News Network
