Laos: Covid-19 preventive measures remain in place at schools

VIENTIANE, July 11: The Champassak Provincial Department of Education and Sports has confirmed Covid-19 preventive measures will remain in place after the resumption of teaching and learning at schools across the province, reports Laos News Agency.

“Following the nationwide reopening of schools on June 2, our province has attached importance to complying with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Sports to ensure the safety of children and teachers,” Mr Bounchan Boudsaodon, Deputy Director, Champassak Provincial Department of Education and Sports said on Jul 7.

Classrooms, learning equipment and vehicles have been cleaned by health workers with students told to keep social distancing of at least one meter, and practise other preventive measures.

“Every school must have necessary equipment including thermometers to check temperatures of students, soaps or hand sanitizers,” said Mr Bounchan Boudsaodon.

“Before entering classrooms, both students and teachers will have their temperatures checked, wear face masks and keep a safe distance from each other.”

“Our school resumed regular teaching and learning on Jun 2 with Covid-19 suppression and preventive measures tightened,” said Manivone Phengsavang, Director of the Pakse Secondary School.

Centre of Information and Education for Health, Ministry of Health in cooperation with UNICEF, USAID and other international organizations have been conducting a campaign to teach people in the province on how to prevent Covid-19 by practicing regular hand washing with gels or soaps and wearing face masks.
