Police kill four soldiers in southern Philippines shootout


MANILA (Xinhua): Policemen killed four soldiers, including an army major and an army captain, in the southern Philippines on Monday during an alleged shootout in Jolo town in the southern Philippine province of Sulu, the military and police said.

An initial police report said a police team on patrol spotted the four soldiers aboard a sports utility vehicle at around 2.40pm on Monday (June 29) , and the police team stopped the car when the four men aboard the SUV introduced themselves as "members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)."
