Fears for Philippines press freedom as country's Covid-19 cases and death keep rising

MANILA (Reuters): Veteran Philippine journalist Maria Ressa, whose website has put President Rodrigo Duterte under tough scrutiny, was convicted of libel on Monday and faces up to six years in jail, in a ruling widely seen as a blow to media freedom.

As many were unhappy with the verdict, the Philippine health ministry on Monday (June 15) confirmed 10 more Covid-19 (coronavirus) deaths and 490 additional infections.
