Airil Rizman Zahari is trailing leader Chris Carey by a stroke in the Sabah Masters at the Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club.
PETALING JAYA: Unheralded Australian Chris Carey stole the limelight from his more illustrious rivals by firing a three-under 68 to seize the opening round lead in the Sabah Masters at the Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club in Kota Kinabalu.
The 32-year-old shot five birdies en route to leading the US$100,000 (RM350,000) event, which is the final event of the 2014 Asean PGA Tour season, by just a stroke ahead of the chasing pack that includes locals Airil Rizman Zahari, Khor Kheng Hwai and and Tan Chien Hau, Thailand’s Pipatpong Naewsuk and Sutijet Kooratanapisan and Singapore’s Mardan Mamat of Singapore.
