PETALING JAYA: The RM2.6bil allegedly deposited into the personal account of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is not from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said its investigations have found that the money actually came from donors.

MACC said in a statement yesterday that a report on the investigation findings had been relayed to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“The outcome of the investigations showed that the RM2.6bil which was claimed to be deposited into the account of the Prime Minister came from donors and not from 1MDB funds,” the statement said.

It said the investigation on SRC International involving another RM4bil was still ongoing.

The statement added that when the Special Task Force was formed, MACC’s investigations only focused on the aspects related to 1MDB’s former subsidiary SRC International and the deposit of RM2.6bil into the Prime Minister’s personal account.

Police are conducting the investigations related to 1MDB while Bank Negara Malaysia focused its probe on methods and financial arrangements, the statement said.

The MACC also gave an assurance that none of its officers were involved in any conspiracy to topple the Government.

“The actions taken by MACC are to enable it to conduct its work and functions as an independent commission.

“Our responsibility is to investigate graft cases and not to overthrow any party, including the Government,” the statement said.

“MACC also assures everyone that the investigation will be conducted independently, professionally and in a transparent manner,” it said, adding that the body hoped that all quarters would be patient and give the commission room to conduct a thorough investigation.
