KUALA LUMPUR: The death of Tan Sri Omardin Mauju early Saturday is a major loss to the silat world in the country, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said the passing of the founder of the Malaysian Silat Lincah Association (PSSLM) is irreplacable.

"I've known the late Omardin closely for a long time. This is a loss which is very difficult to replace.

"Personally, I have lost a close friend. I greatly value what he had done in the name of religion and the Malay race," he said.

Najib said the late Omardin had developed the martial art of Silat Lincah into a respected organisation in his lifetime.

Najib paid his respects to the late Omardin at the Grandmaster Omardin Mauji Lincah Complex in Sunway Batu Caves here.

The Prime Minister spent about half-an-hour with the family of the late Omardin and practitioners of Silat Lincah.

Others who also paid their last respects were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, former Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ali Rustam and Pilgrims Fund Board chairman Datuk Azeez Rahim.

Omardin's remains were buried at the Kampung Puah Muslim Cemetery at 3pm.

The late Omardin died at the Tawakal Hospital at 3.20am of kidney complications.

He was picked as the first recipient of the 'Anugerah Pendekar Malaysia' in July 2011, which was handed over by Najib, at a PSSLM 50th anniversary gathering.
