KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar (pic) has been released on police bail, after getting her statement recorded in connection with an allegedly seditious remark she uttered in Parliament.

She was released from the Dang Wangi police station at 12.15pm on Tuesday without further remand.

"We are pleased to inform that the police have not decided to pursue a four-day remand as initially intended.

"This follows the wave of protests to her arrest on Monday, which was unnecessary as we were fully ready to cooperate with the police on the investigation," Nurul Izzah's lawyer, R. Sivarasa, told reporters outside the station Tuesday.

He said the PKR vice president was required to appear at the police station again on Apr 16.

"The bail bond is valid for one month, so she has to return to the Dang Wangi police station on Apr 16.

"However, it does not mean she will be charged then," he added.

Nurul Izzah thanked her supporters for standing up for her, and defended other activists such as Mandeep Singh, Adam Adli and DAP's Teo Kok Seong who have also been arrested for their participation in the Kita Lawan rally held on Mar 7.

She said it was unlawful to prosecute her as she was granted immunity as an MP under Article 63 (2) of the constitution.

"Such an onslaught to my rights as a Parliamentarian will affect other MPs right to speak up in the future," she said.

Nurul Izzah was detained under the Sedition Act on Monday after she allegedly attacked the judiciary when reading out a Parliament speech by her father, jailed opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

She was detained overnight at the Jinjang lockup, soon after giving a statement in connection with the investigation.

She is also being investigated for her participation in the Kita Lawan rally.
