PETALING JAYA: Sisters in Islam (SIS) has extended its condolences to the family of PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
Describing his passing as a “big loss to all Malaysians”, the group said the former Kelantan Mentri Besar would be remembered as someone who was humble, modest, and a people’s leader.
“Although we share differences in opinion, the late Nik Aziz’s stature as a leader is undisputed,” said SIS.
SIS pointed out that in Nik Aziz’s tenure as MB, he increased the duration of maternity leave from 60 days to 90 days.
“He also shared the belief that the distribution of zakat (alms) should be expanded to include non-Muslims who are in need,” the group said in a statement.
Nik Aziz, 84, passed away at his home in Kota Bharu on Thursday night, following a five-year battle with prostate cancer.
