Body of underwear-clad Vietnamese woman found in hotel toilet

KUALA LUMPUR: The body of a Vietnamese woman, clad only in her bra, was found in the toilet of a budget hotel room here in Selayang.

The victim, Tran Thi Thuy, who is in her 30s, showed signs of strangulation with injuries to her neck.

Tran, who is believed to be a karaoke centre worker, was found lying face down in the toilet with her hands tied behind her back with a towel.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said ‎police received a call at about 6.50pm Sunday from an employee of the hotel, located near the Selayang wholesale market complex.

He said the victim's remains were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.

ACP Munusamy said investigations revealed that the room was registered under the name of a local man identified as Tan Kok Keong, 38, whose last known address was in Temerloh, Pahang.

He added that police were looking for Tan to assist investigations.

ACP Munusamy said hotel records showed that Tan checked into the room at 9pm Saturday and Tran went into the room about three hours later.

He added that the hotel worker said Tran had previously stayed in the hotel on Dec 18.

ACP Munusamy said that the case has been classified under section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
