PETALING JAYA: Miss Universe Malaysia 2014 Sabrina Beneett has unveiled two locally designed outfits to be worn for the pageant next month.
In a preview, Beneett emerged in a designer Adila Long piece complete with headgear to match the Goddess of Kenyalang or the Hornbill Goddess look, a theme chosen by Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (Mumo) for the pageant.
Adila said her gown would be used to represent the national costume during the competition. It has three elements – the tribes of Sabah and Sarawak, the pua kumbu (traditional patterned ceremonial cloth) and the rhinoceros hornbill.
“We want her to look powerful, so people can relate to it and how she represents the local culture of our country,” she said adding that the piece was accompanied by faux feathers to emulate the stealth of the hornbill and jewellery inspired by the Iban and Kayan warriors.
For the evening gown category, Beneett will be wearing two pieces by celebrated duo Fiziwoo.
The 24-year-old elegantly paraded a stunning gold dress with detailed symmetrical sequin work to illustrate liquid gold dripping over her body.
Fiziwoo designer Izree Kai Haffiz said the silhouette of the gown was chosen to show off Beneett’s hourglass and leggy figure while the gold train further accentuates the enigma of a strong queen.
Beneett will be competing with 87 others at the 63rd Miss Universe pageant on Jan 25 in Florida, the United States.
