Selangor slashes salaries of top four posts

PETLING JAYA: Salaries of the Mentri Besar, Speaker, deputy Speaker and executive councillors will be reduced from Jan 1 next year, Mentri Besar Azmin Ali announced.

The cuts ranged from 14% to 33%.

Under the new structure, the Mentri Besar's salary will be reduced from RM29,250 to RM25,000 (14.53%), Speaker from RM22,500 to RM15,000 (33.33%), the deputy Speaker from RM15,750 to RM10,000 (36.51%), and state excos from RM20,250 to RM15,000 (25.93%).

The salary of the state assemblymen remained at RM11,250 per month.

"The move, provided by the Members of Administration and Members of the State Assembly (Remuneration) (Amended) Enactment 2014, will see the state government saving a total of RM1.029 million a year," said Azmin, who earlier proposed the motion for the enactment which was later passed at the state legislative assembly.
