Man beaten to death at traffic light

KUALA LUMPUR: A 56-year-old man was beaten to death by five men at a traffic light along Jalan Permai E in Taman Raya Tasek Tambahan.

Ampang Jaya police said a witness claim­ed to have seen the victim, Kanagaretnam Sevalingam, getting into a scuffle with the men who were on motorcycles yesterday.

“The witness said the men were beating up the victim with their helmets. After that, they fled on four motorcycles. One of the suspects also rode off with the victim’s red Yamaha LC motorcycle,” Ampang Jaya OCPD ACP Khairuldin Saat said, adding that the men were last seen heading towards Tasik Tambahan.

Kanagaretnam was taken to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of severe head injuries yesterday morning.

Police found broken helmet visor shards and other pieces of motorcycle helmets at the scene.

“We have yet to establish the motive of the murder. We are on the lookout for the five suspects and investigating this under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” ACP Khairuldin said.
