GEORGE TOWN: Technician Alex Tan Kean Chye can now plan for a getaway with his girlfriend after he clinched the grand prize in a lucky draw at the Penang Starwalk 2014.

He won a 3D/2N stay at Pangkor Laut Resort and a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 yesterday.

“I am so happy. I was planning for a holiday to de-stress myself from my hectic work. I feel like I’ve just won a jackpot. Now I can take a deserving break with my girlfriend,” said Tan, 24.

Lady Luck also smiled on Go Chang Soon, 32, when he won a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in his debut at the Penang Starwalk.

An elated Go said he decided to join the walk on the spur of the moment. “I was eyeing a tablet and this is just so timely,” said Go, after receiving his prize from YTL Communications Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Wing K. Lee.

The hotel stay and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 are valued at RM6,299 while the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is worth RM1,999. All were sponsored by Yes.

The walk, which featured only the non-competition category, was flagged off by the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at the Penang Times Square.

Also present were Star Publications (M) Bhd executive director Tan Sri Kamal Hashim, Penang Amateur Athletic Association president Datuk Syed Mohd Aidid Syed Murtaza and The Star’s senior regional manager (operations) David Yeoh.

The event also featured a 1km charity walk where some 200 participants from corporate companies and charity homes took part in the “Walk With Us”.

A total of 12 corporate sponsors had pledged RM10,000 to a charity each under the segment.

The participants were also treated to a host of performances during the Starwalk Variety Show.

The Penang Starwalk 2014 was jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Penang Amateur Athletic Association. Yes was the Platinum sponsor for the event while the six Silver sponsors were Pallas, 100plus, Magnum, BP Healthcare, Karta Coconut Water and Hakka Lodge.
