ILLEGAL gambling premises around Kuala Lumpur are employing guest relation officers (GROs) to lure patrons as stiff competition is forcing them to be more enterprising, reported Kosmo!

A source only known as Wan, 25, said that the tactic of employing GROs began in Sabah and spread to the outlets in Klang Valley about three months ago.

“These illegal outlets have been losing business as more customers are opting to gamble online, so they started employing GROs,” said Wan, who used to own an illegal gambling premises in Petagas, Sabah.

“I myself employed about 10 GROs from Vietnam and Thailand,” hesaid.

Wan added that in the first six months of employing the GROs, he managed to net a profit of RM500,000 as customers were drawn to his premises.

“All regulars were given a special codeword to enter the premises,” said Wan, adding that those who won a lot of money were even given extra services for free, including sex, by the GROs.

Wan said offering free sex sessions to big-time gamblers was a norm within the industry.

>Sinar Harian reported that jewellers in Terengganu do not expect the sale of gold-plated imitation jewellery to exceed the sale of real gold in the near future.

“We are not competing with sellers of gold-plated jewellery as those who love collecting real gold will continue to buy the real stuff,” said Datuk Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh.

Nik Muhammad, the owner of Madinah Gold and Diamond Shop, said: “Customers who buy gold jewellery will not buy gold-plated ones and vice versa.”
