PUTRAJAYA: A teenager was detained for illegally downloading local and international songs and films from a website.

Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry enforcement director Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said the 18-year-old was nabbed at his home in Taman Larkin Perdana, Johor Baru on Wednesday following a month's surveillance.

Digital equipment including a laptop, personal computer, broadband, router and modem worth RM15,000 were also seized in the raid.

"The raid was made after complaints from copyright owners and the public over the website which was used as a portal to download local and international songs and films," he told a media conference on 'Ops Trident' here.

The raid involved the ministry's enforcement division, Malaysian Cybersecurity officials and Bukit Aman police personnel.
