Police looking for man who allegedly detonated explosive in petrol station toilet

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for a man who allegedly placed a homemade explosive in a toilet of a petrol station and detonated it.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the incident occured at a petrol station along Jalan Jambu Jertih, Mile 6, Jalan Kepong at around 4.45pm Sunday.

"We were alerted by a man who informed us that there had been an explosion in the toilet there.

"We immediately dispatched the forensic unit and bomb squad to the scene," he told the Star Online.

He said initial investigations revealed that the explosion was caused by home made fireworks.

"Our personnel have found fragments of a can drink wrapped together with stones in adhesive tape.

"The forensic unit are in the midst of reconstructing the explosive device," he said.

SAC Gan added that police believe a man wearing a helmet with visor, black and red jacket and carrying a sling bag as the suspect based on CCTV footage.

"We have yet to establish the motive for the case," he said adding the case was classified under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 and Section 507 of the Penal Code for detonating explosives and Criminal intimidation respectively.
