PETALING JAYA: A 27-year-old man with a previous record of intentionally causing hurt with a dangerous weapon was shot on his left leg after allegedly attempting to attack a police patrolman.
Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Junaidi Bujang said the wounded man was part of a five-men group who were spotted in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh in a silver Toyota Vios and two motorcycles at around 8pm on Wednesday.
“The mobile patrol unit trailed after the vehicles and followed them all the way to a residential area nearby.
“They managed to apprehend the motorcyclists some 10 minutes later. The policemen tried stopping the suspect’s car at the junction but the driver sped off, prompting them to give chase,” he added.
Supt Junaidi explained that police managed to corner the suspect some 15 minutes later, of which the suspect rammed a nearby parked Proton Iswara before attempting to hit one of the police personnel.
“The policeman had no choice but to shoot at the suspect’s car, causing it to flip to the side.
“The driver alighted from the car and pulled out an object from a bag. He attempted to attack the police personnel, prompting the latter to fire three shots, one of which hit the suspect’s left leg,” he said, adding that, the suspect was sent to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.
Supt Junaidi said the car used by the suspect was reported stolen in Bandar Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh.
“We believe the suspects have been actively robbing people and breaking into vehicles in the past three months.
“They were an aggressive lot and we believe that they used machetes and firearms to rob people,” he said.Supt Junaidi said three men, including the shot suspect were detained while while two of their accomplices managed to escape.
