PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry is offering to become a mediator in the internal crisis between Malaysia Airlines’ management and its employees, says Deputy Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi.
Although MAS was a government-linked company, he said the ministry would only step in if there was a request from the stakeholder, he said.
“If there is a need and request for help, I think that should not be a problem then as it is our national carrier,” he said.
Ab Aziz urged MAS to communicate directly with its employees or through the union to deal with the internal problem.
“This will ensure a better relationship between the employer and employees as well as to ease the problems within the company.”
On the resignation of about 300 of its staff and cabin crew, Ab Aziz said it could have taken place due to the financial standing of the company.
“Although the matter was not highlighted to the ministry, it could have happened because of MAS’ financial losses in recent years,” he said, adding that such staff could be unclear about the company’s future position.
