BEIJING: A critically endangered amphibian found itself at the centre of a new Chinese festival on Thursday, officials said -- promoted as a “350 million year old” health treatment and served up on plates.
The Chinese giant salamander numbers are estimated to have declined by 80 percent in the wild in recent decades by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
