Global icon takes centre stage at launch of Haig Club in KL

EXCITEMENT filled the air with David Beckham’s arrival at the cocktail reception to celebrate the launch of Haig Club in Malaysia.

Haig Club is a new single-grain scotch whisky from Diageo, produced in partnership with Beckham and British entrepreneur Simon Fuller.

Held at The Troika, the star-studded evening witnessed some 150 whisky enthusiasts, socialites and celebrities gracing the event to get a taste of the whisky, served up by some of the best bartenders and mixologists in Kuala Lumpur.

Among those present that evening were corporate figures Quill Group of Companies Group executive director Datuk Michael Ong Leng Chun, Ireka Corp executive director Lai Voon Hon and Guinness Anchor Bhd managing director Hans Essaadi, fashion designers Melinda Looi and Datuk Bernard Chandran were also present.

It was also a star-studded night with the presence of Malaysian celebrities Andrea Fonseka, Deborah Henry, Carey Ng, Carmen Soo, Peter Davis and Lawrence Wong.

The unveiling of Haig Club was done earlier the same day at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, followed by dinner at Cantaloupe at Troika Sky Dining.

The dinner was hosted by renowned shoe designer Datuk Jimmy Choo and attended by some of Malaysia’s most influential personalities, including Star Publications (M) Bhd group CEO and managing director Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, tech entrepreneur Joel Neoh and international art sensation Red Hong Yi.

Beckham said he was incredibly proud to bring Haig Club to Malaysia.

“Being a part of the process of creating something this special and to have the opportunity to share it with Malaysia is the main reason I have been looking forward to this visit,” he said.

Haig Club was a whisky crafted to both appeal to whisky connoisseurs as well as people who are new to whisky. It sets itself apart by the unique way it has been crafted, to its distinctive square blue bottle and its fresh, clean style and smooth taste.

The contemporary appearance of the square Haig Club bottle draws on a history of innovative bottles produced by the House of Haig.

The blue glass bottle was inspired by the tradition of blenders using blue tasting glasses so the spirit can be reviewed based on aroma and taste.

The new whisky is now available in bars, restaurants and nightclubs in Malaysia, as well as in duty-free shops globally.
