RM1mil target for charity run

PARKSON Corporation Sdn Bhd, together with Lee Chong Wei Foundation are joining hands to organise the second Lion Parkson Run at Setia City Mall Central Park in Shah Alam on Nov 15.

This effort under the auspices of Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) aims at raising funds for the Home for Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children in Banting, Selangor.

The run is targeting to attract 5,000 participants and raise over RM1mil for the home.

The home for special children was built at a cost of RM2.2mil contributed by LPF, on a 1.68ha land worth RM1.2mil donated by Lion Group.

The funds to build the home came from a series of television programmes in 2008 and the Million Dollar Dance Grand Finale Charity Show in February 2009, both produced by LPF chairman Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng.

The home, which can accommodate 100 children, was officially opened by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng and national shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei on Nov 4, 2014.

The run is being held to raise funds to build Phases 2 and 3 of the home to accommodate another 100 children, and an orphanage and old folk’s home.

The main sponsor for the run is Parkson, Fila, Polo, Larrie, The Flexx, Bonia, Akemi, Seiko, Hwa Tai, LS Production, Official Time Keeper, Jaguar and Spritzer as sponsors.

The press conference to launch the run was attended by Cheng, Lee, Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children Association Johor Baru president and founder V. Rajamanikam, Lion Group director and LPF trustee CS Tang, LPF trustee, Dr Chua Siew Kiat and Parkson Merchandising director Natalie Cheng.

Cheng welcomed everyone to join in the run.

The run will have a 5km and 10km route.

The registration fee for the 10km route Competitive Run is RM60 while Fun Run for students aged 13 to 17 years old is RM35.

The fee for the 5km route is RM40 while the Family Run is RM100 for a family of two adults and 1 child aged below 12 years old.
