TripAdvisor has ranked cities around the world according to the reviews featured on its site.
BASED on a survey by TripAdvisor Kuala Lumpur did not rank within the top three in the various categories, travellers viewed the city positively, ranking Kuala Lumpur 12th for best value for money. Of the 37 tourist cities surveyed, the Garden City of Lights also made it to the top 12 for best shopping.
The world’s largest travel site, announced the results of its second annual World City Survey, revealing how travellers view key tourist cities around the world. The results were compiled based on more than 54,000 responses from those who have recently written TripAdvisor reviews for featured cities around the world.
Ranking first for city with the best overall experience was Tokyo. The city also claimed top spots for helpfulness of locals, taxi service, local public transportation, and cleanliness of streets. Tokyo received high marks across the board, as it ranked amongst the top 10 in 13 of 16 categories in the survey.
The categories were – Helpful locals; Friendliest taxi drivers (Dubrovnik in Croatia); Best taxi services; Cleanest streets; Ease of getting around (Vienna in Austria); Best value for money; Comfort for travelling alone; Best for shopping; Best for hotels; Best for restaurants; Best for attractions; Family-friendliness (Stockholm in Sweden); Best for culture;
Closer to home, Singapore was another high ranking Asian city which has been featured amongst the top 10 in 10 of 16 categories in the survey. The lion city came in first for comfort when travelling alone; second for taxi service, cleanliness of streets, ease of getting around and family-friendliness; and third for friendliness of taxi drivers. Best for nightlife; and Best overall experience.
Other high ranking cities include New York City which ranked first for best restaurants and nightlife; Rome which topped the list of attractions/things to do and culture; Dubai which was first for shopping and hotels; and Budapest which was voted best value for money.
