A recent poll has found that many in the region have heard about Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
WITH the country having kicked off Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014, TripAdvisor recently polled more than 1,000 respondents in South-East Asia for their opinion on it.
Almost two-thirds (62.5%) of the respondents said they had heard of the special events for VMY 2014.
Among respondents who were aware of these activities (643 respondents), 51.8% heard about them via mainstream media (TV/radio, newspapers, magazines, online media), followed by 17.4% through social media, and 15.4% through the Tourism Malaysia website.
The respondents were from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.
For Malaysians and Singaporeans, TV/radio was the main medium of information regarding VMY while for the Thais and Indonesians, it was through social media.
None of the Malaysians and Singaporeans knew about VMY through magazines and only 3% of Thais and 1% of Indonesians actually ticked magazines as the source.
Sadly, though, at least 31% of Malaysians had no idea what’s going on for VMY. And 61% of our neighbours down south didn't know about it, while 20% of Thais and 31% of Indonesians polled had no clue.
