Feb 15 at the New York Toy Fair, Mattel announced Pictionary Air, an AR-powered version of the classic board game where players draw in the air while their smartphone, tablet, or TV tracks their pen.

As our world is becoming more digitalised, board games have to convert themselves into "tablet" or "smartphone" games to stay relevant. As reported by CNET, Mattel announced that it is doing just that with Pictionary, dubbing its new, AR-powered twin Pictionary Air.

Instead of using a pen and paper to draw pictures for your partner to identify, players are provided with a comically huge light-up pen which they use to draw into the air. The drawing is then cast in real-time onto whichever screen you prefer, whether it's a mobile device or TV equipped with Chromecast or AirPlay.

One Pictionary Air is downloaded, it requires no data, so you can play wherever and whenever you want – you can even record players drawing and share them onto your favourite social media platforms.

If you thought Pictionary was tough with a pen and paper, imagine playing without even seeing what you're illustrating. Pictionary Air will arrive to Target in June for US$20 (RM81.65) and to other select retailers worldwide in July. – AFP Relaxnews
