Vita means “life” in Latin but that is obviously no longer the case for the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita).

Sony has revealed that it will stop the production of the handheld gaming device in Japan in 2019. There are also no plans to introduce a new handheld gaming device.

“Currently, we do not have any plans regarding a new handheld device. In Japan, we will manufacture PlayStation Vita until 2019. From there, shipping will end,” Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president Hiroyuki Oda said to website Famitsu at Tokyo Game Show 2018.

Previously, website Kotaku reported that Sony is ending the worldwide production of physical Vita games in March 2019. Users can still get digital copies of the games on the PlayStation store.

The Sony Malaysia website store is currently listing the PS Vita 2000 Series in black with 1GB internal storage model for RM716.

PS Vita was first introduced in 2011 as the replacement for PlayStation Portable or PSP. Some popular PS Vita-exclusive only game include Tearaway, Dead or Alive 5 Plus and Soul Sacrifice.
