Star Trek actor George Takei combines two of the Internet
In the House Of Cats app, both are orange, lumpy and mean.
Actor and activist George Takei, who launched the augmented reality (AR) app, says it combines what the Internet loves best: cats and politics.
“This is, without a doubt, one of the most absurd and tragic moments in US history. We should feel upset about some of the things that are happening, but we created this app so we can laugh about some of the more ridiculous stuff,” says Takei, on the app's page.
The app features a familiar cast of political animals, including Trumpy Cat, Meowlania, Vladdy Putin and Lil’ Rocket Pug, with more characters to be added as more funny political news comes up.
The app has built-in animations, plus fresh content pulled straight from the headlines and new dialogue from the president's mouth or his twitter.
The AR features allows users to take Trumpy Cat out of the virtual White House and place him in the real world, making him repeat recording by the users or use his own infamous quotes.
New functions will also be added, like a selfie mode and internal postings from the app.
“House Of Cats is fun, it’s engaging, it’s interactive, and it’s fresh, and there will always be new, timely political humour to enjoy. Best of all, everyone can participate! Laughter is powerful medicine, and it’s impossible not to laugh at the bright orange animal who lucked into a job running the United States ... I’m talking about Trumpy Cat, of course," jokes Takei.
The app created by Takei and Montreal-based app makers BMAD is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play for US$0.99 (RM3.99) with a premium content subscription version to be available soon.
A percentage of the net profits from House Of Cats will be donated to Refugees International.
The app warns that not all features will be immediately available on iPhone 6 and older versions.
