Surviving dinosaurs, learning about the body, cube-shaped Pokemon and a dangerous rescue mission – we look at some of the latest smartphone games.

Surviving on an island of dinosaurs

Finding yourself lost and freezing on an unknown island is bad enough without dinosaurs too. That's the scenario in ARK: Survival Evolved, a game which has now made it from PCs and consoles to smartphones.

Players have to struggle to survive and to procure food, clothing, shelter and weapons. Some of the dinosaurs on the island are dangerous but others can be tamed and turned into valuable resources.

In online multiplayer mode, friends can be found to start village communities. However, other players can also be hostile and lead a T-Rex herd against you. The game is free and has in-app purchases.

Inside the human body

In Homo Machina the human body is a huge machine inside which countless workers carry out their duties every day. They are led by a director who has to ensure that, for example, every morning all the senses are activated.

The game takes the player through the complete routine of a day and teaches the player about the body at the same time. For example, how do the eyes and ears work? How does food make its way through the body?

Along the way small puzzles have to be solved. This educational game is available for Android and iOS for US$3 (RM12).

Collecting cube-shaped Pokémon

The latest Pokemon game for Android and iOS, Pokemon Quest, resembles Game Boy and DS games and looks a bit like Minecraft. On Tumblecube island everything is cube-shaped, including the Pokemon.

Players assume the role of trainers who catch and train these wild creatures. Captured Pokemon can be trained to hunt for other Pokemon. The game is free to play on Android and iOS.

Die many times in a beautifully rendered world

In Feist it's the beautiful graphics that first catch your eye. In this jump‘n’run game, players steer a small, fluffy creature through a dangerous forest.

His friends have been kidnapped by big monsters and the rescue mission requires navigation through many a dangerous situation and treacherous trap.

The player will die a thousand deaths on the way but fortunately is reborn right in front of the fatal obstacle and so can try again. The game is free to play on Android and iOS devices. — dpa
