Running a dinosaur theme park, rebuilding a storm-lashed town and racing hell for leather – we look at three of the latest games for PCs and consoles.

Balancing profit and safety at Jurassic Park

If the Jurassic Park brand hasn't already given you enough of dinosaurs with its fifth movie recently hitting cinemas, there's now also a game to go along with its latest film title.

Jurassic World Evolution is an amusement park simulation where the player takes on the role of a theme park manager who has to take care of the safety of visitors and the welfare of the animals while at the same time keeping the park profitable.

The facility is spread over five islands and includes a gene laboratory where the prehistoric creatures are bred. The more outlandish the dinosaur, the more visitors come and the more the cash registers ring but that has to be balanced against visitor safety.

Featuring actor Jeff Goldblum as Dr Ian Malcolm from the films as an in-game guide, the Jurassic World Evolution is available for PCs for around US$58 (RM235) and the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One for around US$70 (RM283) and is suitable for players aged 12 and older.

Rebuilding and farming – Harvest Moon – Light Of Hope

The farm simulation Harvest Moon has earned itself a certain cult status. Now a new version, Harvest Moon – Light Of Hope, is coming to the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

The special edition includes a major change: A co-op mode in which one player controls the farmer who is the main character, while a second player controls a mysterious gem-sprite called Soleil.

The challenge is the same whether for a solo player or a team: A small harbour town has been destroyed by a violent storm and reconstruction is needed.

The skills of a farmer are in demand to ensure that sufficient food is available. And, of course, communication skills are essential to interact with the town's residents.

The game has no age restriction and costs US$40 (RM161.90) for the Playstation 4 and the Switch.

Racing through an open world – The Crew 2

Motornation is the name of the open world in The Crew 2, a game aimed at racing fanatics. Race drivers from all over the world compete against each other in four motorsports: Road races, professional races, off-road and freestyle – and not just on land but also on the water and in the air.

Of course Motornation is really a synonym for the United States, which means you can race in many familiar locations, from burning rubber in Los Angeles to eating dust in the Grand Canyon.

Players can both procure new vehicles and tune the ones they have. Game play is unrealistic but entertaining – for example you can drive your car up a ramp and have it turn into a plane, which then lands on a river and becomes a speedboat.

This exciting arcade racer is available for PCs for around US$70 and consoles for around US$80 (RM324). There's no age restriction. — dpa
