An LED flash on the front of a smartphone may seem like a nifty feature for anyone who regularly takes selfies, but it turns out the flash will only provide just slightly better lighting than your phone's display already does.

An LED flash like on newer iPhone models isn't much brighter than a smartphone screen switched to full brightness, German tech magazine Connect concluded in a recent test.

That’s why a selfie flash shouldn't be the deciding factor which phone you ultimately opt for, the experts say. Instead, the front-facing camera's resolution is the most important factor for selfies, as this is typically inferior to the rear camera. — dpa
