The Kingdom Rush series is one of the most popular tower defense games available on mobile.

With three medieval-fantasy titles — Kingdom Rush, Kingdom Rush Frontiers and Kingdom Rush Origins — currently under its belt, developer Ironhide Games is now heading into space.

Simply called Iron Marines, the next game from the studio will feature classic sci-fi elements such as space marines, mechas, space colonies and aliens. Think StarCraft and Starship Troopers but on a smaller mobile platform.

Similarly users will be able to choose from a number of heroes with unique skills and abilities.

Among the heroes revealed include Taggins, a space marine; Kara, an artillery-equipped soldier; and Ajax, a mecha-riding pilot.

According to the developer, the game is set to feature over 50 upgrades for units and bases for users to power through the stages and perfect their scores.

Based on the previous Kingdom Rush games, users might be able to expect more heroes to be added to the game moving forward.

The game will be released on Sept 14 on both Android and iOS.
