As word of the deadly terror attack in Manchester spread and police frantically tried to gather information about the explosion, online trolls were hard at work spreading disinformation about the nature of the threat and the whereabouts of children displaced by the bombing.

In the hours after the detonation, social media users on Twitter and Facebook fired off posts featuring images of missing children and young adults who weren't missing and, in some cases, were safe and sound in other countries. The push of false information was fuelled by other users who shared their messages in the hopes of helping family members find their missing loved ones.
