The download consists of both StarCraft and the Brood War expansion. — Blizzard
If you are looking for a copy of the original StarCraft, the real time strategy (RTS) PC game that originally kickstarted the eSports craze, you are in luck as it’s now available as a free download.
The free download was announced last month by Blizzard Entertainment and made available today for both PC and Mac.
At the same event, Blizzard confirmed that the 4K remaster is in the works and will be available sometime this summer (around June to September).
For starters, the game features three space venturing factions – Terran, Zerg and Protoss against each other in the battle of interstellar dominance.
The StarCraft universe has then been expanded with the release of three StarCraft II games with Wings of Liberty (2010), Heart of the Swarm (2013) and Legacy of the Void (2015).
As the original game was released almost two decades ago, it might look badly outdated for many gamers today with the lack of details and pixelated graphics.
However, if you are one of the old-timers who wish to relive the glory days of RTS from the late 90s, this might be the best game for you, and it's completely free.
The download will comprise of both StarCraft and the Brood War expansion.
To download the game, simply open the Blizzard app (formerly Battle.net), click Shop and then Classic Games. Select StarCraft Anthology.
An installer client for PC or Mac will need to be downloaded first before the setup process can commence. Best make sure you have up to 2GB of hard disk space available before proceeding.
