SAN FRANCISCO - MARCH 10: People work inside Twitter headquarters March 10, 2009 in San Francisco, California. Twitter, the new social networking service that allows users to send out and also read text message updates from others, is fast becoming very popular all over the world. Twitter Inc is showing other Silicon Valley firms it's possible to set public goals for a more diverse workforce and actually meet them, especially if those goals are modest.

In December, 30% of the people in Twitter's leadership positions-defined as those director-level and above-were women, the San Francisco-based company said Jan 19. That compares with 22% in 2015 – and a goal of 25%. Twitter's technical workforce was 9% underrepresented minorities, which met the company's stated goal and was a gain from 7% the prior year.
