MANILA/TAIPEI: A Philippine bank used by cyber criminals to channel US$81mil (RM326.63mil) stolen from the Bangladesh central bank won support from a top shareholder on Aug 8 after being penalised by its regulator.
Rizal Commercial Banking Corp (RCBC) was fined a record 1bil pesos (RM85.92mil) by the Philippine central bank on Aug 5 after hackers who tried to steal nearly US$1bil (RM4.03bil) from Bangladesh Bank's account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in February succeeded in transferring US$81mil (RM326.55mil) to four accounts at RCBC in Manila.
