Big hit: Skylanders has clocked up sales of 250 million toys since the game's inception.

Skylanders Academy will become the first TV series based on Activision Blizzard's hugely successful toys-to-life gaming franchise when it lands on Netflix later this year.

"Over the last five years, millions of families around the world have welcomed Skylanders characters into their homes. Now, they'll be able to watch their favorite characters come to life on Netflix," said Bobby Kotick, chief executive officer of Activision Blizzard.
