Flush with features: The Flash Plus 2 is very reasonably priced for what it offers

Flash Malaysia has just launched its new smartphone, the Flash Plus 2 and despite its relatively low price tag, this Android M smartphone has a lot going for it.

For one thing, the phone itself has a metal removable cover and comes in two colours – Venus Gold or Luna Silver.

The list of high-end features continue into the hardware as well – the Flash Plus 2 has a fingerprint sensor built into the Home button which is said to be able to recognise and unlock the phone in as little as 0.5 seconds.

The Flash Plus 2 has a rather cool secondary function for its fingerprint sensor – by registering up to five different fingers, the phone can be set automatically to launch up to five different apps immediately after unlocking the phone, depending on which finger you use.

The Flash Plus 2 even has a private folder function for storing sensitive files which can only be opened when you scan your fingerprint.

The camera is a 13-megapixel affair which also comes with phase-detect autofocus in addition to the more common contrast detect autofocus system, which means that it can acquire focus very quickly – focus acquisition is said to be as as little as 0.1 seconds.

For the parent who likes to snap photos of their babies, the Flash Plus 2 has a Kid mode which produces a number of different funny sounds to draw the child’s attention to the camera at the time of shooting.

There’s one other trick up this camera’s sleeve – you know how some phones have a “beauty” mode which smooths out the skin and balances the colour to make you look better?

Well, the Flash Plus 2’s 5-megapixel front-facing camera has this for stills and for video as well so you’ll look better even when shooting a selfie video.

As for the hardware features, the Flash Plus 2 comes with a 1080p 5.5in screen, MTK Helio P10 octa-core processor (with four cores running at 1.8GHz and four running at 1GHz), 2GB or 3GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, microSD card slot, dual 4G SIM slots and a 3,000mAh battery.

As you may have noticed from the specifications, disregarding the colours, there are actually two variants of the Flash Plus 2 – one with 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM and the other with 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM.

So what’s the price, you ask? The 16GB version will retail for just RM599 while the 32GB version will go for just RM729 – pretty reasonable prices.

The 16GB model is available for pre-order right now exclusively on Lazada and the first shipments to customers will happen on May 31.

The 32GB model, however, will only make an appearance in either the middle or end of June.
