Capturing the mundane: Less than half of consumers who own wearable cameras or camcorders use them for capturing the events of daily life, rather than extreme sports.
Wearable cameras such as the GoPro may be advertised as the must-have audio-visual accessory for extreme sport thrill-seekers, but according to new research, their most common uses are much more mundane.
New top-line data from Parks Associates shows that almost 40% of consumers who own wearable cameras or camcorders use them for capturing the events of daily life.
Of those US consumers surveyed, the most popular single activity was for recording birthday parties and vacations.
The most common sporting activity captured by a wearable camera or wearable camcorder was cycling, closely followed by capturing motorcycling or driving a car.
In fact, in terms of outdoor pursuits, filming a hockey or football game; hunting; boating; and ‘artistic performances'; all rank much higher than surfing, scuba diving, windsurfing or skydiving – the activates most commonly associated with action cams. — AFP Relaxnews
