GEORGE TOWN: A volunteer fireman is feared to have been blinded in the right eye after he was attacked by a group of motorcyclists at the North South Highway on the mainland.
Technician Ho Boon Kai (pic), 24, sustained injuries after glass fragments from his spectacles pierced his eye during the incident.
“The group of about 15 people punched and beat me with wooden poles.
“It started when I knocked into a lorry at about 2am on Wednesday, and a motorcyclist following close behind also lost control of his machine and fell to the ground,” he said.
Ho said he then went to check on the motorcyclist only to be attacked by his friends who accused him of causing the accident.
“I tried to explain but they attacked me instead, My brother and a friend, whom I called for help, then arrived and were also assaulted.
“I tried to tell them I was also a victim and had nothing to do with the accident but they did not listen and continued hitting me,” he said, adding that he was also robbed.
Ho was speaking to reporters when Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan, Youth chief Liew Yeow Hooi and Barisan Nasional’s Bukit Tambun candidate Lai Chew Hock visited him at the Penang Hospital yesterday.
Ho’s family members had since lodged a report at the Bandar Perda police station.
