Pakatan unruffled by sea of blue flags

BUKIT MERTAJAM: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (pic) says Pakatan Rakyat is not threatened nor intimidated by the thousands of blue flags that have enveloped the state.

He said he believed the people of Penang too did not feel anxious by the deluge of flags which carried the 1Malaysia logo as well as those bearing the Barisan Nasional logo.

“I would rather use the money that is spent on flags to help the people.

“We (Pakatan Rakyat) do not want to win on flags, but what we want is to win on votes,” he said after visiting the Perkampungan Juru market here yesterday.

Describing the sea of flags, especially on the island, as “incredible”, Lim, who is Penang Chief Minister, said instead of winning on (the number of) flags, Barisan should spend the money on the people.

He also said the Barisan should not digress from the real issues of the day, which was to improve the economic livelihood of the people, reduce crime and eradicate corruption.

“The Government should also take Malaysia forward, and not backward, as well as ensure Malaysians enjoy freedom from fear.

“The time has come for the Govern-ment to fear the people and not for the people to fear the Government,” he said.

Also present was Ong Chin Wen and Kasthuriraani Patto, Pakatan’s candidates for the Bukit Tengah state seat and the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat respectively.
